Streaming overtakes cable

Fluent, an NYC marketing research and technology company that specializes in customized audience development via serving personalized ads, just completed a study that shows us just how much media consumption of Americans is changing.  Streaming media usage is now more widespread than cable.

Ways in Which US Millennial vs. Nonmillennial Internet Users Watch TV/Video, May 2017 (% of respondents in each group)

That’s not necessarily a secret, but what stuck me is that the gap is widening.  And it’s going to get wider.  Currently, 67% of respondents in their survey now stream via services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu while 62% currently subscribe to cable.  For millennials, the gap is pretty strong  – 77% to 57%.  Non-millennials – let’s not forget that we exist – favor streaming 65% to 62%.

It’s about cost, convenience, choice, and content.  Four c’s.  Breaking old habits ins’t hard in the digital age.
